Andy Herd

Developer of data processes

Hello

My name’s Andy. I like working with data. Welcome to my corner of the Internet. https://linktr.ee/herdingdata

If I worked for employers who don’t mind me sharing their code then this could well be a tech portfolio site. Alas, that’s not the way of the world. In my spare time:

  • I’m Secretary & Trustee of Protect Earth, a charity dedicated to helping the planet by planting trees. If you have any pennies to spare then you can help us with a donation. I would love to hear from you if you know of any plots of land where the owner might consider planting trees.
  • I help to run the Queer Code Scotland meetup group.

There are a couple of personal projects which I am able to share:

  1. I built a twitter bot.
  2. The second is called datapeek. Sometimes I encounter data files (especially in parquet and avro) and I just want to have a peek at what’s inside. This command line tool makes that a bit easier. It’s not quite polished enough to be ready for public consumption yet but it’s already proving pretty useful.

Why HerdingData? My name is Andy Herd. I’ve spent most of my career shepherding data. It seemed a nice fit as a username for my online identity.
